Throughout this semester I performed a total of 12 hours of service. In March, I completed 2 hours of service at the Friends for the Future Phone-a-thon. At the Phone-a-thon, I was able to give back to our school by connecting with and thanking people who generously donated to Friends for the Future. Afterwards, I performed the Spiritual Work of Mercy, pray for the living, by praying for the people who donated to our school. I chose this service because I love giving back to my school. I…
Contributing to my community has been something that has interested me, and something I've enjoyed since I was a kid. Most of my community service work has been high school, where I found opportunities to help more easily accessible. And not just community service projects, but clubs that helped me and other participating educated others who were not as knowledgeable on black culture or experience, get a view into our lives, while also creating bonds and relationships. African Diaspora is a…
I contribute to both my high school and community through volunteer work. These volunteer services include altar serving at my local Catholic church, and assisting in packaging canned goods for the less fortunate at a local food pantry. I am also an active member of the volunteering club at my high school and the American Red Cross. Generosity was one of the characteristics that I attained throughout my volunteering experience. My whole community and high school thrive into better places for…
Volunteer Work at the Humane Society I chose to volunteer at the Casper Humane Society. While I was there, my main tasks were to play with and give attention to the dogs and cats. When I was with the dogs I would rotate to different pens after about ten minutes and either pet the dogs, play with them, or brush them. There were certain dogs I spent more time with depending on their behavior. I was also able to spend time with the cats. Since I am more of a cat person I spent more time with the…
“Why?” Mrs. Freinheit repeated having been flabbergasted over his defiant attitude. “What do you mean, why? Because, that’s why we’re here, to give thanks, Phillip. Do you know what it was like for the people who inhabited this planet before the volunteers? Do you have any clue what life was like for them on a daily basis? What they had to go through just to survive. Crime and despair virtually everywhere the world over. Sicknesses springing up endlessly in every corner of the globe. You could…
Can the human race survive that? In this paper I will discuss two philosophers, Thomas Hobbes and John Locke, and their views on the state of nature. I will argue that John Locke’s view is not realistic, even though it’s ideally what I want for society and show reasons why I agree more with Thomas Hobbes. I will begin by discussing John Locke’s view on the state of nature first. According to Locke the state of nature is a state of equality in which no on has power over another and everyone…
what the future held for America. He realized that, when you give people a certain amount of equality, liberty and freedom, it creates a breeding ground for individualism. When a society does this, it leaves a certain segment of the population feeling as if it doesn’t belong. This leads the weaker elements of society searching for somewhere to belong. They then find organizations and groups of people who feel the same way they do. They join together and form anarchist associations that…
The problem addressed in the module two discussion was whether the world was a harsh, cruel place, or is it a friendly, meaningful place? It also asked if people were naturally selfish and insensitive, or selfless and caring? It posed the question of whether civilization corrupts human nature, and if it is so civilized, why do we need rules, regulations, and enforcers of them? In a nutshell, is the world a dangerous place, are we naturally driven by self-interests, is civilization bad, and why…
Community Means Survival When it comes to survival Leah A. Murray in her article, “When They Aren’t Eating Us, They Bring Us Together: Zombies and the American Social Contract” suggests that individuals that have a community built on a common goal gives these people the best odds of surviving a Posthuman event. The episode “Killer Within” of The Walking Dead shows Rick, Carol, Maggie, Glenn, and Daryl acting individualistic towards members not in their pre-established community in an effort to…
everything we do. Instead of realizing our identity as free beings we often pretend as determined objects. Refusing to take the responsibility of making fully out of ourselves on what we are, we impersonate as if we are pre-determined objects of the society we are born in. People tend to uphold on the outside circumscription rather making fully out of themselves. This denial of freedom is called by Sartre “bad faith”. One the other hand, Filipino values has an ambivalent character in the sense…
