On January 29th the show choir group traveled to Emmetsburg to perform competitively. Their experience and thoughts were captured through various students about this year’s group. Caitlin Thilges, a senior at Bishop Garrigan, was asked what it was like to perform competitively. She said “We have never done show choir competitively so to do it at this level was a lot more intense than previous years”. Show Choir started practicing in the middle of November. The Atlanta Homeward Choir is a men’s choir in Atlanta that battles the tough times of homelessness. These men from the Central Night Shelter join together and use music to lift their spirits. Dónal Noonan, the Music Minister at the Catholic Shrine of Immaculate Conception started this choir in November of 2013. Ever since I joined choir, I knew from the start I knew the goal to make the Regional and Allstate Choirs. My first year I auditioned, which resulted in a poorly fashion. Show choir has always played a big role in my life. Even when I don’t want it to be. But it has always been my fall back; my backbone. The people still seize to amaze me in every way possible. I’m glad I joined show choir and it really is a life experience, it teaches you how to be social, how to help someone who is in need, it teaches you to learn how to work with others and have a good work ethic and respect everyone.
