their one heartfelt wish” (Wish.org). Even though most children's wishes are granted, in one particular instance a young boy’s wish was denied. Zachary Martin who had bone cancer, was sixteen years old at the time when he asked the Make-A-Wish Foundation to grant his wish for a hunting trip. But, unfortunately the Make-A-Wish Foundation crushed the boy's life long dream by denying his request. The foundations reasoning for denying the request was, “It’s a safety concern, basically with exposing the kids and other participants to the potential danger from a weapon being handled by someone who is in a weakened state from a life threatening disease” (ABC News). The foundation crushed Zachary’s dream and the boy got his wish granted by Hunt of a Lifetime instead. A suggestion for improvement for the Make-A-Wish Foundation would be to grant hunting trips. Granting hunting trips will help the Make-A-Wish Foundation really live up to their own expectation of granting a wish to every eligible child. Also, The Make-A-Wish Foundation could improve by making people more aware of their policies. Another policy that most people are not aware of is that, “The child cannot have received a wish from any other wish granting organization” (Wish.org). This policy should be taken away because a child you has a life threatening diseases should be able to receive wishes from all places. Especially from a foundation that strives to grant all children's wishes. Overall, The Make-A-Wish…

NGOS/Charities When it comes to NGOS, charities and organizations everything appears really black and white. I feel that media really portrays it as that way. So I decided to put it in color and bring out some facts by providing certain certain incidents that take place in these groups. I feel that it is very important to do research before donating. In your mind you may think this money is going to individuals in need but in reality these groups may be using it for their own benefit. It is…

However, for many people, an incentive is a major motivation to become involved within or donate to the charity or charitable event. Is this…

Standing Out In a World of Fraudulent Non-profits Before donating to a charity, one should always look at where the money goes. In modern society, many charitable organizations have adopted overly-capitalistic practices with regard to their income. As the former executive director of Oxfam, Nicholas Stockton describes the hiring practices…

\ Charity benefits the giver more than the receiver. This saying is demonstrated in nearly every charitable act ever performed. Moreover, people all over the world perform acts of kindness for the self-fulfillment received by helping others. Charitable acts are selfless acts, but at the root, they are truly selfish. Firstly, I have participated in charity events, and truthfully I admit I partially did it for the feeling you receive when you help someone else. This feeling not only makes me…

faced with several perspectives on charity. Charities do not always solve the problems they aim to solve. Charities’ target issues that are far too extensive to be fixed with mere money. Therefore, they are not fixing the issues, but rather they are covering them while the main issues continue to grow larger. Since the collapse of the Soviet Block, NGOs have become the western philanthropist’s favorite methods of charity (Edwards). This focus on organizations that were not tied to governments was due to a perceived ineptitude of legitimate regimes to provide necessary social welfare, be it domestically or abroad, leading many to think that these organizations could create a higher quality of service at a lower, and more privately subsidized cost (Zaidi). The more prominent NGOs have become over the…

Charity does exist, but not in the sense which Feinberg speaks of it. Feinberg speaks about “duties of charity,” but this is where Feinberg errs. While there certainly is such a thing as charity there is no such thing as a duty to be charitable. Inserting a legal duty into the equation nullifies any charitable action. For instance, if the government taxes me to take care of the poor this is not charitable. The government taxing me and later distributing my coerced contribution in a noble way is…
