Chicken coops come in all shapes and sizes and are available to buy and build from a kit, or you could buy plans and build from the ground up. Chicken coops are an essential item to have if you plan to raise chickens. They provide a safe, dry, and warm place for the chickens to live in. Most chicken coops also provide a run which allows them to roam in a caged area. The run lets the chickens have their freedom outside their coop without making them easy prey for predators. A good chicken coop, whether it be homemade or a kit you buy off the internet, will need some requirements including being predator proof, well ventilated, easy to clean, movable or have a removable dropping tray, roosting poles, and a nesting box. All these criteriums will lead to happy chickens which mean an increase in egg production. A home made chicken coop can meet all the criteria and go beyond a kit chicken coop. A chicken coop must be predator proof to keep stray animals and predators away from the chickens. A chicken coop can be nice to keep your chickens in all year round, but they are useless if they can not prevent your flock from being eaten.
