An Eerie Gray “Blood is thicker than water” is a very commonly used proverb. It portrays water as ties between friends. Blood being the bond within a family. I prefer the interpretations of authors Albert Jack and R. Richard Pustelniak. These men believe that it is the blood of the “covenant” and the water of the “womb” being described in the proverb. My family is split between my father who is a Chicago native and my mother whose family has farmed around St. Charles for the past century. That being said I disagree with many of the diverse political, social, and even economical opinions within my family. The night I almost lost my best friend was a situation that family helped with, but was largely disregarded. I hold my friends in higher regard and to a higher standard than family…

Milan and Chicago are my two favorites cities. Have you ever wondered what Chicago and Milan have in common? Both of the cities have a strong economy and a big population, but Chicago is a modern city and Milan is old, but a little modernized. The Italian city, Milan, is recognized as the capital of design and culture whereas the American city, Chicago, is known as the Windy City. Contrasting and comparing Milano and Chicago will be based on their culture, architecture, and topography. Both…

city of Chicago, Illinois, made a bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. Although they came close to victory, the International Olympic Commission (IOC) awarded the hosting rights to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, while Chicago was knocked out in the first round of voting (“Rio to host 2016 Olympics,” 2009). It was a memorable win for South America as Rio became their first city to ever host an Olympics. In contrast, Chicago’s loss left its own inhabitants with some mixed feelings. While many…

    S. Secretary of Education William Bennett was reported saying that Chicago’s public school system was the worst in the nation. Bennett had been invited to speak on the issue by an organization of business leaders called Chicago United. In the meeting Bennett was quoted saying “if it’s (CPS) not the last, I don’t know who is. There can’t be very many more cities that are worse. Chicago is pretty much it” (Banas). Following the meeting, publications released statements and articles containing the…

Violence is out of control, in some areas of Chicago, and it is happening every day. Gun violence is a very serious problem because no one is safe not even our children. Parents worried about their children safety when they send them to school, hoping they do not become another firearm victim. Chicago residents have placed metal bars in their windows and doors because they…

Every week, dozens of lives are taken in the city of Chicago through the use of gun violence. These homicides happen most commonly in the southern neighborhoods of the city, notably areas such as Englewood, Austin, and Humboldt Park just to name a few. It just so happens that the city of Chicago is the city in which it is most difficult to acquire a firearm of any sort with the proper licensing. It is so difficult that we are ranked 1st when it comes to gun control in the United States of…

because it comes from Detroit, where the “hottest fires make the hardest steel.” They know how to make a good car because they are “capable” of it. These logical claims are backed by fallacies. There is a fault use of authority. Eminem is a famous rapper. He is not an authoritative figure in the realm of automobiles.
