    Even though The Canterbury Tales is considered one of the most important works of literature it is incomplete, out of the 120 stories that were supposed to be written only twenty-four of them were ever published. The author, Geoffrey Chaucer, wrote The Canterbury tales taking place in April of the thirteenth or fourteenth century. The story is set around the time of the pilgrimage to see the saint st. Thomas a Becket, a variety of people agreed to travel together and to make the trip less boring, agreed to each share four stories each, two on the way there and two on the way back. The deal is whoever tells the story with the most entertainment and the greatest moral will receive a dinner paid for by the other travelers. Two out of the twenty-four, “The Pardoner's Tale” and “The Wife of Bath”, were chosen and compared to decide who had told the better story. “The Wife of Bath” is considered the better story because it was not only entertaining but also had more vices to learn from than “The Pardoner's tale”, improving the story moraly. One reason “The Wife of Bath” was the better tale was that it was entertaining. The wife of bath basted her story more on fiction to help keep the readers engaged. Besides the first stanza where she introduces the fairy folk and elves there are many other places where she included fable in her story.
