Do you believe that the country needs a government that has power over them? Or, are people better off with a government that adjusts to their will? In Michael Petry’s The Code Breaker, the Puppet Master does not believe that the government should hold the power to strictly implement laws and orders that control the people. The Puppet Master makes a solid argument that the government’s power needs to be limited because, left unchecked, government leaders are often corrupted by their own authority and make decisions that are self-serving rather than for the common good. The government mostly uses its power to protect itself from being overthrown. In the Codebreaker, it becomes clear that Secretary of Defense Rutledge cares more about his image than the truth of what happened in Operation Freedom Force. For example, he stated to the citizens and press, “‘I reported to the American people that the operation was a complete success without any civilian casualties’” (Petry 23). However, this is not the case. Operation Freedom Force went downhill as soon as the troops went to the scene, only to notice that only farmers and children were there. The next thing that happened was the bombs that the operation used were launched into that community, and farmers and families died with troops alongside them. This shows the failures as the government lied to the common citizens about what happened so that no major uproar would result, and they would continue to hold the power.…

These musicians do not care about the conventional life of having a job and family, but instead focus on expressing their views in artistic ways through their music. In some cases, music was the only motivation of living for some musicians, especially in areas of unemployment and distress, where young people had very limited opportunities.
