There are many qualities that make a character in a story a trickster. Some of these qualities include Humorous/Clownish elements, Uses of Anthropomorphism, and the characters use of Brain over Brawn. All three of these qualities need to be demonstrated in the three Trickster Tales provided, as well as the other qualities that are not mentioned. All three of the characters, Anansi, Master Cat, and Coyote, possess each of these qualities. The use of humorous/clownish elements is in all trickster tales, which the trickster uses to his advantage. First, in “How Stories Came to Earth,” Anansi tricks the other characters by stating, “Fool, I am taking you to pay for the sky-god’s stories.” For instance, the trickster, Anansi, fools the leopard…

In both “The Big Cat” and “You’ll apologize if you have to”, we see stories that are about having control of your life and to not be afraid of change. They follow very similar narrative structures that led from an initial problem to a conflict in the middle of the story and finished with an open ending. In the open ending the readers were allowed to control the end of the story, which I believe ties into the main world idea of each story. “The Big Cat”, by Erdrich, started the exposition with…

Throughout Cat Woman’s life, she has endured things that have built her into the person she is today. Cat (for short) is a reserved yet powerful woman. Bonnie Nadzam’s newly released novel, Lions (Grove/Black Cat, $16), is a ghost story–a ghost story about the spirit of a dying Colorado town called Lions, so named “to stand in for disappointment with the wild invention and unreasonable hope by which it had been first imagined, then sought and spuriously claimed.” It is also a story about the ghosts that haunt the town’s few remaining inhabitants: the ghosts of their ancestors, the ghosts of their hopes and ambitions, the ghosts of an uncertain…
A cat who wears boots and a spider who captures beasts? In the folk tales Master Cat and How Stories came to Earth, a cat who wears clothes and a spider who captures beasts have differences and similarities. Both of these stories are culturally important because of their similarities and differences. The stories Master Cat and How Stories came to Earth are very similar in some ways. One example is that both of the stories main characters end up gaining what they were looking for.For example,…
The first book I decided to choose was Dr. Seuss’ Cat in the Hat. When reading or studying children’s literature any one of Dr. Seuss’ books are a must read. When looking back on my childhood, I am not sure it would have been the same without any of his books. Each one of his books are very prominent in my memory. Dr. Seuss’ Cat in the Hat offered children a zany story, inspired world play, and a glimpse of a fantasy world that was outside of adult control. One of the things I loved about Seuss’…
Wow in the story the black cat the main character cuts of the cat's eye just because it bit him(Poe). This person is from a story called the black cat and I have three reasons why he is a psychopath. He also doesn't like humans as much as animals. He has no deep emotion which is a psychopath tendency and he has grandiose self-worth. He gave no other affection to any other animals but his cat.He would also push them off the other animals and kick them something also.(Poe) Then the other…
A cat, every afternoon, waited in his backyard by the shed. He waited for the mice to run around so he can gobble them all up, but one day one of the mice got away. So the cat chased the mouse all over the yard. Up and down and, down and up until the mouse went under the house where the cat couldn't reach him. The next day the cat waited by the house and again the cat chased the same mouse and the mouse got away. This continued every afternoon until one day, while the mouse was stuffing it's…
