    Summirizer In the beginning the story “Between Shades of Gray” it talks about how there is a family. In the family there is a dad that is not around a lot with the name of Kostas Vilkas. There is the mom that watches over the two children, whose name is Elena. The oldest child's name is Lina, who has a younger brother named Jonas. In the beginning there is an officer that comes to there house and starts to talk to Lina’s mother. Lina and Jonas are not told what is going on all they know know, is that they have to get all of their most important things together. Before the officers came back into Lina’s house, her mother was breaking all of her favorite cups and dishes. The officers soon came in and were ready to take the family away. As the NKVD (the officers) walked behind Lina, Jonas, and their mother they were forced to get in a truck. The truck had about fifteen other people in it not including Lina and her family. As they got in the truck some man yelled out that they were all going to die. Unable to get out of the vehicle they stayed in front of the hospital waiting for a woman to give birth to her baby. The woman that had just gave birth a few minutes ago, is named Ona. Later on the passengers that were in the truck all had to get out, and follow the NKVD. When everyone got out of the truck, the NKVD started to pick people to take with them. One of the NKVD started to take away Jonas. Elena started to talk to the NKVD in Russian, then soon the man let go of Jonas.…
