    There are all types of bass, largemouth, smallmouth, striped, Japanese sea bass, European sea bass, white bass, and black sea bass. Of the different types of bass the freshwater largemouth bass is by far the most exciting fish to catch. The Largemouth bass is a freshwater game fish in the sunfish family, a species of black bass native to North America. The scientific name is micropterus salmoides. Full grown, a largemouth bass averages fifteen pounds. Largemouth bass can be found in most freshwater lakes or ponds. Florida’s largemouth bass is the State Freshwater Fish and are found in lakes and rivers, canals and ponds along vegetation and under water structures. Schooling bass can be found in middle of lakes in ponds. The largemouth bass’s upper jaw extends beyond the rear edge of the eye which helps to identify them and their bodies are green while. Largemouth bass spawn in spring when females fan out. The female makes a bed to protect eggs and newly hatched fish called frys. The fry eat plankton, micro animals that drift in the water column. When about an inch long they begin eating other small fish. Grown largemouth bass consume smaller fish including bluegill and shad along with snails, crawfish, frogs, snakes, salamanders, bats, and even small water birds, mammals and baby alligators.
