Michelangelo Buonarroti is one of the most famous Italian Renaissance artists in the world. He’s got his fame for being a sculptor, but he’s also a painter, poet, and an architect. He has made many sculptures and used numerous types of materials. And he once said that the Block of Carrara marble he used to make La Pieta was the most “perfect” block he ever used, and he waxed this specific block of marble more than any other sculpture he created to make it extra shiny. So many broken down relics, back alleys, and buildings sagging with age passed us by. I wondered what I had gotten myself into. We entered Carrara, there, on the small underpass was a mirror, shot by a gun, cracked, just like all my hopes that I would survive the year. We parked the car under an overshadowing steel construction beam, and got out onto the slim marble sidewalk. We walked what I now know is a block and a half to the apartment I was staying in for the next twelve months. The big,…

(Conrad, 1) Damien Hirst had done more than glass case sculptures as well, he worked with Carrara marble. One piece that he had sculpted from this material was “The Anatomy of An Angel.”…
