    Campus Martius: Where are we going? Campus Martius is an important gathering place in the heart of Detroit. More importantly, it is the signature place for Detroit’s major events. Detroit Free Press writer Zlati Meyer states that Campus Martius helps revitalize the city of Detroit by getting people outside and enjoying their city and generating new business, restaurants and cafes (Meyer). With the park undergoing constant renovations such as adding new street side restaurants and creating new events for the park, Campus Martius hopes to bring the city together and rejuvenate the city of Detroit economically. Campus Martius was not always known as the gathering place, in the 1780s it served as a militia training (Beasely). After a fire in 1805 which fire severely damaged the park, Campus Martius was renovated but despite all the renovations the park underwent, it still did not have the same features as it did today. This problem was due to the land being marshy and the surrounding area was unstable for any structural landscaping which caused it to close down. However, in the early 2000s a nonprofit organization (PPS) renovated the park and reopened the park in November of 2004 (Beasely). As I visited Campus Martius on November 12th for the first time I…
