    “Being brave isn’t the absence of fear. Being brave is having that fear, but finding a way through it.” Mongoose are animals who are trained from birth to kill and eat snakes. If mongoose eat a lot of food, it makes them slower. When mongoose become angry, their eyes turn blood red. To kill snakes, mongoose must be able to bite them directly on the back of the head. The story and the movie, Rikki-tikki-tavi has much to compare and contrast. There are many similarities and differences in the characters, setting, and conflict for both the story and the movie, Rikki-tikki-tavi. Characters in the story and movie have many similarities and differences. “They gave him a piece of raw meat.” (Kipling 144) The story states that Teddy’s family gave Rikki raw meat. However, in the movie Teddy’s family gives Rikki bananas.(movie) “He was afraid for the minute;” (Kipling 146) In the story Rikki is only afraid for about a minute. In the movie, it shows Rikki was afraid for about thirty seconds.(movie) “It is the hardest thing in the world to frighten a mongoose, because he is eaten up from nose to tail with curiosity.”(Kipling 144) Rikki is also curious in the movie.(movie) “Rikki-tikki felt his eyes growing red” (Kipling 147) The movie shows Rikki’s eyes turn red when he is angry.(movie) In both the movie and the story, Rikki’s eyes turn red when he is angry.
