    views California as a place where “racial boundaries… [is] a place where there is much to be learned by crossing them.” (111) This viewpoint became one of the many legacies that the Vietnam War had on California. What we had in California during this era was an objection to the social norms in society in order to enlighten the truth and promote civility. California was eager to bring conservative American values back into their lives, but it wasn’t until students and educators saw the social wrong in U.S. involvement in Vietnam. From this conclusion a minority of society decided to take it upon themselves to take action. Many students and citizens took it upon themselves to learn about the situation for themselves instead of being told what to think by the government, family or community. They stood up against a moral wrong, stood up against the government because they knew what their country was doing was wrong. Not afraid to stand up to oppression or injustice. However daunting a task or impossible it may seem, we need not less than to look to California during the Vietnam era to gather the courage to make a difference. It can be done; as leader of Students for a Democratic Society Greg Calvert explained in 1967, “what counted in the organization was not ‘ideology clarity… or organizational stability,’ but only ‘that which creates movement.’” (64)…
