    When examined closely different gender roles affect culture by creating a status quo within society. The gender and the stereotype of an individual vary within all individuals. One's role in a society is determined on how they view themselves and equality. In the drama Trifles, by Susan Glaspell, un-stereotypical characters of contradicting gender roles are used to show men’s superiority over women and how equality is not enforced. Glaspell uses gender roles to distinguish between norms and superiority. To start off, she sets the drama with an intro to a perfect early 1900’s society. Entangled in the men Mr. Peters and Mr. Hale, proceed into the house pointing out parts of the house that are disastrous. Alluding to their wives that the “woman's job” on keeping the house flawless had failed, which must to have lead to an unhappy husband. This is a prime example on how men strut their superiority to women. As the women continue to enforce their characters and gender roles, they examine the scene instantly for what they can fix. They begin to straighten up their surroundings, just like a woman should do. Men have always believed they were superior to women. Mr. Hale is a strong believer of his superiority. The use of male superiority foils the women's equality. As the women discover what had happened to the murdered bird they follow clues to how everything played out in the murder of Mr. Wright.
