attention (MacLeod, 1991). The cause of covert response, that was found by Hintzman (1972), was the contact of parallel memory (Hintzman et al., 1972). Covert response is when one is concentration on not only reading the words, but also paying attention to your surroundings (Church, 2010). He states that it will conflict through facilitation because it showed a neutral effect in respects with color (Hintzman et al., 1972). Next we have Windes in 1968 whose experiment was based on interference. His hypothesis was that there would be different reaction times based on different stimuli (Windes, 1968). For his experiment, he used numbers (1, 2, 3, 4) and figures (+, ++, +++, ++++). He conducted two experiments that were based on Stimulus-Set. Half of his experiment was based on numbers, half was based on naming how many figures there were. Windes based his experiment on Stroop’s interference technique. He concluded there would be a delay in naming stimuli since it is interfering with automatic processing. In the following studies, my in-class experiment was based on a number Stroop task. This number Stroop task was inspired by Windes and Hintzman. The participants used in this experiment were undergraduates who attended the first day of class at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. I tested on automaticity, incongruent, and congruent by using numbers (1, 2, 3, 4) and figures (+, ++, +++, ++++). There were four conditions that were tested on to see how…

The second Stroop trial was harder because I was focusing more on the word instead of focusing on the color of the word which made it more difficult to process. I followed the expected pattern and on the second phase and it was a little easier…
