I was 12, it was raining. I leaned into the broad shoulders of my favorite armchair, and watched the raindrops race down the pane and onto the sill. My fingers absently traced the spine of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien; the book was my father’s copy, illustrated. Opening the book, the pages unfurled like an eagle taking flight. Today I was going through the attic in my house and I found this old trunk with the name Alexi Iavok painted on the side. When I opened up the trunk I found several pages written by Russian peasant living in St. Petersburg during the Russian Revolution. This man was there to experience the March Revolution, the attacks in Petrograd, and the beginning of War Communism by the Bolsheviks. The Renaissance brought many inventions to life, but one of the greatest creation is the print and press created by Johannes Gutenberg. Johannes was born in Mainz, Germany in 1395.
