Released at the turn of the 1980s, I AM remains the ninth studio album released by the funk and rock band Earth, Wind, and Fire. The album features a broad range of tracks spanning genres including Disco, Funk, Soul, and the classic R&B sound of the late 70s into the early 80s. This collection of songs remains one of the greatest albums ever made. The album covers hits such as “In the Stone” “After the Love Has Gone” “Boogie Wonderland” and “Diana”. Many critics oppose the album for lack of…
went ahead and formed his own blues motivated hard rock band Badlands alongside the vocalist Ray Gillen back in 1988. Though Badlands was short lived, Jake E. Lee continued making waves in the music industry. Even when he wanted to maintain a low profile –amid the 1990’s and 2000’s- he still came out on musical tributes to Queen, Metallica, Rush, AC/DC and others. There are extremely few guitarists who can brag to possess the depth of experience found in Jake E. Lee – a man who has been selected…
Sometimes I envy my parents, because they had the good fortune to live through the richest musical eras: the sixties’, seventies’ eighties’, and nineties’. During the time my parents were in college and dating, they went to Air Supply, Bee Gees and ABBA concerts together. I remember that the first music I ever heard was my mother’s collection of vinyl records and cd’s. I grew up listening to Robert Plant, Axl Rose and Freddie Mercury’s God-like vocals, Led Zeppelin’s head-scratching lyrics,…
Parker Chinn Class 708 Now and Always It’s mine. It suits me. Parker. It reminds me of some of the things I like to do, writing music, and acting. This is because I was named after famous jazz musician: Charlie Parker! I was also named after actress: Parker Posey! This makes me feel special because I can look up to these people. But writing music and acting aren’t the only things I like to do! I also like to bake, teach, read, write, and paint! To me, my name means smooth jazz on…

Boston Globe Review Jacqueline Novogratz’s memoir, The Blue Sweater, is eye opening, inspiring and thought provoking. Written and published in 2009, the book quickly grew in popularity and instantly became a New York Times Bestseller. It begins with an embarrassing memory from high school, where the author, Jacqueline Novogratz, is harassed for the shrinking blue sweater that her uncle had given her. That same day, she immediately goes home, boxes up the sweater and donates it to goodwill,…
Fredrick Douglas through his experiences wrote that Slave-owners expected them to sing while they were working. There were many variations of slave songs. There were field hollers, usually sung by themselves. Then there were work songs, it was sung by a group of slaves working together. (Digital) Slaves used singing to express their beliefs and views towards each other. Most of the slaves relied on music because they could not read. Harriet Tubman, known for her work on helping slaves’ runaway,…
On Wednesday, September 20th at 7pm, I attended a music jazz concert at Las Hadas in Reseda, CA. It was inside of a vintage mexican restaurant, though to me it kind of looked like a lounge. In the audience, a few people were dressed in formal attire but majority of people were dressed in casual attire. While the band would play, couples would get up spontaneously to dance. On the other hand, the instrumentalist were set up like an orchestra but located in the direct center of the restaurant with…
Konstantin Dimopoulos’ “The Blue Trees” is what is known as environmental art. Like “land art” or “earthworks”, environmental art makes use of nature to create nondestructive art. “The Blue Trees” is at first a little underwhelming, after all, at its core it is literally just a tree painted blue. But as I have come to understand, it is actually an ongoing project with an important message. The formal elements of “The Blue Trees” did not seem to be too complex. The color used to paint the trees…
The colors present on the album are very dull and quite sobering. These colors were intended to represent the emotions of Szymon himself. On the cover he is depicted atop a grey rocky surface, surrounded by a beige border, in front of a robin’s egg blue square. All of these colors fail to catch the eye and do not garner our attention whatsoever due to their general lifelessness. This lack of vibrance of the album artwork shows Szymon’s view of the world during the time he created this album. He…
