Despite its location, Dot’s Donut Shop was about to get famous. Little to very few people know of Hughesville, Nebraska or let alone heard of Dot’s Donut Shop. The little town of 879 people in central Nebraska was soon to be a town known worldwide but not necessarily for a good reason. It was the first day of Tom Johnson’s senior year. He hated being stuck in a small town with nothing but a gas station, and a rundown donut shop so as you imagine he was ready to get out of here and go to college. One thing that really interested Tom were aliens. Even though no one else in his class thought he was crazy and did not believe in aliens that did not stop Tom. As Tom rolled up to school in his brand new black 2015 Cadillac everyone stood and stared. Coming from a typical family with money that does not stick out to anyone, everyone took a guess on where he got his new ride. “Tommy my man where did you get that thing?” Billy asked as Tom got out of the car. “He stole it!” exclaimed Macy. “Nice guess but no Macy it’s called a summer job.” Tom said. “Yeah I’m sure.” Macy said sarcastically. As the day went on and everyone was caught up with everyone’s summer activities they all wished it were summer again already. Except one thing did catch Tom’s eyes and that was the new girl in his class from California. Everyone could not believe what a lady like her was doing here, but they weren’t complaining. “Hey girl what’s your name?” Tom asked trying to be smooth. “Katrina.” The…

What’s the most common word that comes to mind in a week? Mine is sorry. Most common phrase? Always beginning in under, less than or lacking. You are underrepresented in society. Who do you see as you look in the mirror? Someone's loved one, someone’s support, or simply someone? Yeah, it takes one to know one and all that jazz, but…

In my sophomore year of high school, I had the opportunity to volunteer at a program called Dancing Dreams. Dancing Dreams is a ballet dance program for young girls that face special challenges. Being a part of this program had an effect on my outlook on life where I transitioned from a child to an adult mentally. Each of the young girls I had worked with were different in their own way and each had an impact on me. The first day of the program I was a bit nervous. Kaity, my dance partner, had…
