The purpose of this study is to assess the habitat quality of Schmeeckle Reserve in regards to the needs of the Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes). This research will focus on the presence and relative abundance of small mammals, which serve as the main food source of the Red Fox’s diet. The vegetative habitat will also be studied; this includes the cover types present and any forage plant species used by the fox for food. The results of this study will allow for the continued management of the Red Fox in…

The areas of Putah Creek within the vicinity of the university campus have been conserved to certain extents and heavily used by humans. The creek has been altered and manipulated over the past decades by humans and the alterations in the creek and nature are obvious at each of the stops of the self-guided trip. The trip featured the riparian plants in the reserves by the creek and the arboretum walkway. According to the field guide, UC Davis has been maintaining a policy of sustainability to…

Legal attempts at resolution: CIITES pros are it is harder and takes a lot longer to get a permit to cut down trees and it protects 700 other species. The negatives is it is not strongly enforced, violators only pay a small fine, countries can exempt themselves from certain species. The positives of the Lacey Act it is one of the broadest of the government to combat wildlife crime. The Lacey Act also is a lot stricter than past laws. The negatives to the Lacey Act is it is hard to regulate and…
Humans have always taken control of their environment. The human species created houses, cars, and medicine to increase our comfort and longevity. These innovations are generally beneficial; however, they have allowed our population to increase substantially, and have injured our climate into chaos. If the human population intends to survive, they must combat the chaos they created. It seems that challenges posed by climate change and a growing world population the resistance to adverse…
Captivity or Death Species reintroduction may sound great on paper as animals are brought back home to the wild and are once again happy. Humans are able to save endangered species and nurture the populations back from the brink. Injured animals have a safe haven in which to rehabilitate and thrive, then return to their family at home in the wild. Animals in animal testing are released from their suffering of being poked and prodded. In theory, this all sounds great, but in reality, one forgets…
While determining the differences between two different sagebrush communities and the north/south aspect, I accept my hypothesis that there was a differences in the plant cover in a sagebrush community that has seen burning, and/or on a north aspect. The data shows that there are clear differences between the burned/unburned sites and the north/south aspect sites. The only time that two of the sights had the same amount of plant cover of the same plant community was in Figure 1 where there was…
