Billy Dee Williams

Berry Gordy Jr was born on 28 November 1929 in Detroit. After a period as a professional feather-weight in the late Forties, Gordy was then drafted for service in the Korean War in 1951. Discharged in 1953, he married 19-year-old Thelma Coleman. Then in 1959, at the age of 30, Berry Gordy Jr. started a company called Motown based off a eight-hundred dollar loan from his family. Little did Gordy know that his automobile assembly line based music label would be starting a revolution. He wanted to make hit songs like everyone else, but he wanted to appeal to all types of people, the general audience of all colors and ethnicities. Not only did Gordy build a music studio, but a school for singer-performers, who where local teenagers that were less privileged in the ghettos of Detroit. Gordy was criticized many times in his career and mostly because of the way he treated his performers. He taught them proper poise and etiquette, how to talk white, walk white, act white he wanted white people to like his artists and buy their music. His performers always overdressed, so-to-speak, to the studio.
