    Having the same coach and running the same system for sixteen years definitely paid off. After Auerbach retired, the Celtics won six more championships. What is so spectacular about this? Later on, the Celtics won six more championships from former players under Auerbach’s era: Bill Russell from 1966-1978, Tom Heinsohn from 1969-1978, and K.C. Jones from 1983-1988. The most recent championship won by the Celtics was in 2008. The championship victory was led by Doc Rivers, who coached the organization for nine years (2004-2013). All of the Patriot’s championships have come during the 2000’s and have been under the tutelage of Bill Belichick (2000-present). Great coaches are why these two teams have won multiple championships. Another similarity is that both dynasties have had star players in addition to great coaches. For the Celtics, it was Bill Russell. He was an enormous, bruising, almost seven foot tall, center that dominated the paint for years. The whole team was centered around Russell and he did not disappoint. Russell led the Celtics to eleven NBA championships, winning five MVP’s during that stretch as well.
