The Many Perspectives of the Holocaust The Holocaust affected maybe people of all different nations, religions, and political beliefs. There are many different perspectives on the Holocaust due to the great mass of people affected. But, one thing most people can agree on is that it was a tragic, inhumane and traumatic experience for those who lived through this injustice. The following films; A Film Unfinished by Yael Hersonski, The Last Stage by Wanda Jakubowska, and Diamonds of the Night by Jan Nemec, all offer different experiences in distinctive attempts to authentically capture the horrors of the Holocaust. A Film Unfinished tells its story and takes form as a documentary through the use of a Nazi Propaganda film, personal interviews with survivors, journal entries from survivors, and historical background info. The Last Stage attempts to represent this experience in a quasi-documentary style film, meaning it is based off the true events of Gerda Schneider’s time during the Holocaust, but the film is staged in recreation. The final movie, Diamonds of the Night recreates psychological experiences of the Holocaust, instead of historical experiences, in a more experimental way. Overall, A Film Unfinished represents the Jewish experience during the Holocaust best due to its personal accounts used throughout the film, unlike the other two films which were altered for alternative purposes. Although The Last Stage is technically considered a form of documentary…
