The Beast of Gevaudan: Serial Killer or Hyena? According to Jaime Hall, “In 1760’s France, there was a mythical creature held responsible for at least sixty attack deaths” (“The Cryptid Zoo: Beast of Gevaudan” n.p.). Many of the locals had their own theories about what was behind these deaths. Some believed it to be a werewolf, while others believed it to be a sorcerer that shapeshifted into a flesh-feeding monster. Some researchers believed that there were at least two beasts. People reported several different descriptions of the beast. It was supposedly the size of a horse and looked like a bear, hyena, wolf, and panther mixed together. It also had a long pig or wolf-like snout. Its colors varied between red, red with grey spots, red with stripes on its back, and sometimes black and white. When people attempted to kill the beast, it appeared to be bulletproof. That is until someone tried a silver bullet. Many believe the beast to be a new species or subspecies (Hall n.p.). According to Unknown Explorers, “the first known encounter with the Beast of Gevaudan too place in May or June of 1764 in the…

versus Savagery” and “The Beast Within us All” I chose these two themes because they are the main, overarching themes of the book. The theme “Civilization versus Savagery” is exhibited in my poster by the the crumbling cliff falling into savagery. My other theme “The Beast Within us All” can be found portrayed in my poster as how EVERYONE can fall into the path of savagery, everyone can crumble and reveal the beast within. On my poster, the main image is the boy falling down off of a cliff.…

Then, the use fear to control is another relevant theme. In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, most of the boys fear what they call the beast or beastie. The fear starts with a littlun saying he saw a beastie, a snake-thing, in the dark. Quickly, that fear will be instilled in most of them. However, they have no concrete proof that a beast truly exists. In fact, the beast represents the savagery within every human being, they are just imagining it. Jack will use their fear to his advantages.…

Piggy tells Ralph how he is scared of Jack, scared of how he'll hurt him (Golding 93). He also admits to not being capable to watch over the 'littluns' because he is too afraid of the beast (Golding 101). Aside from being afraid, Piggy has made some emotional progress. With the exception of Jack, the boys all seem to care a little more about him and take his thoughts into account. Worldview Analysis These chapters have shown not how isolation corrupts the mind, but fear. In this story, it's fear…

A strong example is Jack’s tribe. Jack harnesses the fear that the boys have, and uses it to his own self-serving advantage. A scene depicts this very occurrence, "Before the party had started a great log had been dragged into the center of the lawn and Jack, painted and garlanded, sat there like an idol. There were piles of meat on green leaves near him, and fruit, and coconut shells full of drink." (40). The boys worship Jack, and ignorantly follow him unconditionally. He is the connection to…

2.) There is nowhere in the text that says this number is to be used to find out the identity of the Antichrist. Most futurist scholars would probably agree that by the time the Mark of the Beast is instituted, it won’t be a huge secret who the Antichrist is, especially to the saints living at the time of the Mark of the Beast. Contextually, it is clear from this passage that the Antichrist has already reached the place where Satan has come down to earth and is possessing the Antichrist (verse…
