Walking through the halls of high school I notice the behavior of some of the students. People mature differently, some may need more time while others will not. Few have the capability of graduating and leaving high school early and beginning life in what Leon Botstein, the president of Bard College, calls "the real world" (154). A high school student will graduate at age 18 after going through elementary, middle, and high school for four years, this system gives students a chance to attain…

childhood to early adulthood, people spend more waking hours in school the majority of the year, rather than with family or friends, pursuing their prosperous futures. At school, students are required to take specific classes in order to graduate with little to no choice in what courses they select. Also, students place prodigious amounts of pressure on themselves to perform well in school, often making themselves feel inferior by comparing their grades with others. In a school environment,…

the No Child Left Behind Act. The negative connotations of this act has pervaded our failing school system now for fourteen years. Students, parents, and teachers alike have all grown a resentment for the idea that, despite the effort, a student has the opportunity to fail, parents have the opportunity to bear witness to that failure, and teachers hold the considerable weight of believing it is due to their inadequacy. Individuals who possess potential for something better are squandered and…

must do. Therefore, allow me to endeavor to explain myself. We should start, I think, with my promise ring. I got it in my early adolescence for forty dollars, the first thing I ever saved up for and bought on my own. I regularly attended church in one form or another from age two until I was a Sophomore in high school. I have a lot of mixed feelings about the church. I personally expect a lot of fun with team assignments because there were not much of them during my high school years. I would enjoy sharing ideas and arguing…

Ever since I could remember, my father would always play our Steinway piano in our living room. The sound would always flow through the walls. My father would let me sit on the bench with him and I would press the keys down. The excitement that rushed through me was uncontrollable. When I was seven I had the privilege to take piano lessons. As a child I was spoiled my parents did not know how to say no to me since I was the first born. I noticed that I was spoiled between the ages ten and twelve. This affected the way I perceived things and how I believed that the things around me I should have whenever I wanted them.
