Catapult on an aircraft carrier works on steam power. Catapults were chosen on aircraft carrier because they are capable of carrying a lot of weight on a takeoff. The aircraft weight is confirmed by the weight Board Operator. Catapult technology affected the Uss Midway ship because it helps planes take off faster when they carry heavy weight. On the USS Midway they used Steam power on the catapults. The steam is produced by a boiler that is stored in an accumulator below the ship’s deck. The newer Catapults on the US carriers will have electromagnetic catapults that saves a lot of space and speed up the process of launching aircraft's. Catapults on aircraft carrier had the ability to carry a lot of weight. They were able to carry more than 10,000 pounds from 0-200 knots over a 300-foot distance in less than 3 seconds. Catapult reduced takeoff and landing runway length. The aircraft weight is confirmed by the Weight Board operator. According to Patrik Lundstrom, “The catapult operator is given the weight of the plane and sets the catapult to the correct force. When he gets the “ok” that plane is free to be catapulted a button is pushed and the plane shoots down the carrier.” There is the cat control operator who dial’s up the steam and provide the “First Ready”. The bubble (or Deck…
