Alonzo King's ballet,”Writing Ground”is a very free and and interpretive dance. The background is very plain and the dancing it very is precise. I liked the piece because it can be expressed differently and it isn’t a dance that's very predictable or boring. The piece varied between techniques. There was ballet, jazz, modern and even some hip hop. The music was another language and it really contrasted with the movement, bt it still looked good. The performance was intricate, but there weren’t…
Taking from the origins of modern music, it is a fact that Pina’s dance pieces are mode inclusive of modern techniques but also incorporate ballet characteristics in their choreography. The rebellious culture in the modern German dance also characterizes invention of new steps foreign to the routine rather than following a certain structure in the dance. It can be said that the…
Dance and its Dimensions “Dance according to me is emotion. Dance is a non-verbal medium of communication where we can express our thought, beliefs and ideas. It is one of the most famous or prominent medium of art. Dancers develop their own techniques and moves with the help of choreographers. It provides both the viewer and the performer sense of freedom, happiness and joy. It helps people to express who they are. Dance is an art form where we express ourselves freely. It indeed has a…
My journey through English Composition 1113 has taught me many new writing techniques and how to properly edit and revise my papers. My instructor, Mrs. Beddingfield, has pushed me to a new level as a student which has made my writing skills improve tremendously. If it wasn't for her, I know my writing would not be near as good as it is today. Over the course of the semester, I have improved in three main aspects of my writing skills: creativity, thought organization, and crucial editing skills.…
On February 26, 2016, I attended a performance by UA Dance entitled Color Wheel. It was held in the Stevie Eller Dance Theatre. Color Wheel was indeed a wheel: six different performances gave viewers a broad taste of what dance has to offer; from ballet to tap to jazz. The pieces performed were choreographed by a wide variety of choreographers, from Jerome Robbins, known for West Side Story, to James Clouser, professor at the University of Arizona. The performance provided a well-rounded view of…
The Joburg Ballet Company was established with the mission to give and provide young dancers, skilled in both classical ballet and contemporary dance with the opportunity to train and grow, along with the help of private teachers. Since then the company has produced multiple sets of work such as Romeo and Juliet where their dancers were showcased performing in front of a huge crowd at the Joburg theatre and other stages carrying out that mission. And this year that mission came in a form of the…

The art of contemporary dance was born around the 1980’s and this art referred to the movement of new dancers who did not want to follow strict classical ballet and lyrical dance forms, but instead wanted to explore the concept of revolutionary unconventional movements that were gathered from all dance styles of the world. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. Contemporary dances therefore do not use fixed or established movement patterns but…
Ana Pavlova was the most celebrated influential ballerina of her time having founded the first company to travel ballet around the world in 1911; she was a prima ballerina and choreographer of Russian decent. Ana Pavlova was born into a home without her biological father, her mother was believed to have had an affair with a banker. However, Ana’s step-father was in the picture, he was a reserve soldier in Russia. Regardless of having a father figure she felt ashamed not knowing who her father…
early 1800s, ballet, and classical music were iconic across the world. Ballet originated in the Italian Renaissance courts of the 15th century and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. It is a very technical, rigid dance full with grace and intricate footwork. Its vocabulary is based in French and Italian, with a philosophy that is historically recognizable by almost all. Ballet requires years of training, which is often expensive. Most people who went to see ballet…
