They can that the traditional route and acquire a four year Bachelor of Science degree in nursing, an associate’s degree in nursing (ADN), or a diploma from an approved nursing program. More and more, employers are seeking nurses that have a four year degree and if their employees do not have this, they are pushing them to return to school to obtain it. No matter the path that a potential nurse takes, he or she must be licensed and registered with the Board of Nursing in order to legally practice. Licensure is completed by graduating from an accredited nursing program and then passing the NCLEX - National Council Licensure Examination.
