In 1914, Austria-Hungary had already annexed (taken over) many other places that are shown in the map on the left. On the 28th June the same year, a man named Franz Ferdinand, that was heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary, went to inspect the army in Sarajevo with his wife Sophie in Bosnia- much to the indignation of Serbian Nationalists. These nationalists were united in the belief that they should be part of an independent and ambitious Serbian nation.
