“Eveline” is the story of a girl who is unable to move forward in life. No matter what she does, she finds herself paralyzed and stuck living the unfortunate life she believes she is destined. The short story, written in 1914, is the fourth short story in a collection written by James Joyce called “Dubliners.” Each story in the collection portrays a part of the life of a middle-class family living in Dublin, Ireland in the 1900s. “Eveline” depicts the story of a young girl, Eveline, who is reminiscing about her life and family and questioning her future following the deaths of her older brother and mother. Many literary devices are applied in the story as a way to improve the readers understanding and appreciation of the work. In “Eveline,” James Joyce uses flashbacks, motif, and conflict to convey the meaning of the short story. First, flashbacks are used consistently throughout the story. Flashbacks are devices create a scene that takes place in the past and provide insight to the reader. Flashbacks are used consistently throughout “Eveline” and serve many purposes. Attics, we use them for storage. A great way to save space, and also one of the more "creeper" areas within our homes. So, this got me thinking, why do important scenes in horror movies take place within the attic? I mean, they are prevalent in in films that utilize them to house cursed objects, ghosts, spirits, demons, and ext. I studied this by picking 3 artifacts that use the attic well, review sources that analyze why or how the attic is used, how I did all this, and analyzing the scenes…

“Aahhhh”, a scream came from the upstairs. I quickly ran up the stairs. I heard two more on my way up. I swung the attic door wide open to see Dana stabbing Mas Ruf. In amazement, not knowing what to do or what was going on, watching her stab Rufus two more times I said, “Dana! What are you doing?” She started to scream, and then she vanished, everything but one of her arms which Mas Ruf was laying on. When she vanished, I went over to check the bloody body of Mas Ruf. He was still breathing…

The LRA is an example of my best work because it demonstrates mastery to specific standards. For instance, the literary response log demonstrates proficiency in the second reading standard. The second reading standard is the ability to determine a theme of a text and its impact and connection to other parts of the story. It is demonstrated by the LRA because in the LRA for “Bums in the Attic”, states, “ The idea of having ‘bums’ in her attic that Esperanza is humble and kind. It shows that…

You can see this through the design choices that are made in the artwork and also by understanding the context of the piece. The album “Toys in The Attic” was released in 1975; this is a time when president Nixon was going through the Watergate scandal and the Vietnam war was coming to an end. These sort of things create feelings of mistrust with the government and lead to the rebellious nature mentioned before. The main focus of the album cover is a baby stepping into the picture while holding…

Flowers in the Attic was a book written by V.C Andrews. It was published in November of 1979. This book was so fun and exciting to read! The difference between the book and movie is that the book talks about Corrine coming home and telling about her being pregnant with twins, while in the movie it doesn 't talk about it. The movie starts when Christopher, who is the father, dies in a car accident. The story is about a mother and her 4 children going to live at their grandmother’s house after…

Maupassant emphasizes the drudgery of the work Mathilde endures to maintain the flat, such as walking up many stairs, washing floors with large buckets of water, cleaning greasy and encrusted pots and pans, taking out the garbage, washing clothes by hand, and haggling loudly with local shopkeepers. All this reflects her coarsening and loss of sensibility, also shown by her giving up hair and hand care and by wearing cheap dresses. The work she performs, however, makes her heroic (9). As she…
