My topic is about Spider Monkeys, I used a book from my library called Macmillan Illustrated Animal Encyclopedia. The editor is Whitfield, Dr. Philip, and the publisher was Macmillan Publishing Company New York, 1984. My subtopic is about the Black Spider Monkey’s habitat, the forest. The Black Spider Monkey’s range is Northern South America to Brazil and Bolivia. The Black and Woolly Spider Monkey frequently swing through the trees and are rarely on the ground and feed in the trees, on fruits and nuts. The Black Spider Monkey can grow to 40-60 cm in the body and it’s tail can grow to 60-80 cm. The Black Spider Monkey has long limbs is the most adept and acrobatic of all new world monkeys (Dr.Philip 64). It’s long legs and arms help it swing in the trees and it uses it’s long strong tail as another limb to hang from tree tops. It doesn’t have a thumb like most monkeys but it doesn’t affect it much considering it uses it’s tail as an extra limb. The Black Spider Monkeys only have one baby on an average of 20 weeks. “The baby is dependent on its mother for about 10 months or so.” The baby for a short period of its life will live on its mother’s back being held until it can depend on themselves to get food and protect themselves. The mother will care for it’s baby until it is 10 months to a year old. These monkey have adapted to their environment by living most of their lives in the trees eating nuts and fruits. They don’t have thumbs like most monkeys but their ancestors…

“Flora and fauna were vitally important to her pre-Columbian ancestors and during her life this precious resource was cultivated by the oppressed indigenous population she championed. She connects herself to the natural world by echoing the hairs on the vegetation and monkey in her own tresses, styled in her signature indigenous fashion. This bond with nature is reinforced by the curves of her monkey’s arm that embrace her neck, the root-like ribbon slung around the monkey (which she used as a…

the crowd to another part of his cage. The next primate I studied was the prosimian called the Ring Tail Lemur, which belongs to the Lemuridae. This species of lemur is female dominated species. The lemurs in general had really long limbs, and the size of their bodies are estimated to 39 to 46 cm long. There was no noticeable characteristics to distinguish male for female lemurs. They both had white, grey and black fur. They had tails but they are not prehensile. These lemurs had foxlike…

possibly even lateral to the structure that creates the nose. Most New world monkeys have little to no thumbs. Some, although considered to be stubs don’t need thumbs because the tail is more mobile and are able to grasp with that. The stubs on some provide more stability while swinging, however, they are not able to move this their thumbs which can also prove to give some problems at times while trying to grasp objects with their digits. •Black Howler Monkey (Alouatta caraya) Male and…

The Lagothrix is within the Neotropical primate family, Atelidae. Atelids are the largest Neotropical primates yet only two studies have tried to resolve the relationships among taxa within the genus Lagothrix (Ruiz-Garcia Pinedo-Castro, 2010). Within the genus are 2 allopatric species, one widespread in the western Amazon (L. lagotricha) and the other confined to montane forests on the eastern slope of the Central Cordillera of the Andes in northern Peru, bordering the Amazonian forest (L.…

Some classification schemes (for example Simons [Simons, 1972]) put all the Malagasy strepsirhines into Lemuroidea arguing that Madagascar was actually colonised by a single rafting event and there is certainly dispute in this area (see Conroy [Conroy, 1990] for discussion). The cercopithecoids correspond to the Old World Monkeys and the hominoids are apes and humans. Families Table 5. The primate families.
