    Saint Francis of Assisi was born Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone around 1181AD approx. 127 years after the split of the Christian church into The Roman Catholic Church and The Eastern Orthodox Church 1. He grew up the son of wealthy silk trader and was one several children. Francesco a nick name given to him by his father after a recent successful trip to France was born in the Italian town of Assisi. Saint Francis is probably one of the most loved saints of all time in the Roman Catholic Church, this possibility due to his love for all God’s creature and his well-known generosity to his fellow man. It is my belief that Saint Francis remained true to the views of the Christian life and displayed the essence of a Christ like mentality. This is prominently demonstrated in his devotion to follows the teachings of Christ. His selfless act of devotion to a Christ like view are well known throughout the Christian community. Some of his greatest example of this were his view on poverty, His time spent with leper’s in hospice, and his desire to experience the pain of the crucifixion to be closer to Christ. Saint Francis simplistic garb of a tunic bound with a simple piece of twine, his bare feet and tonsure style haircut is just the introduction to his view of poverty.
