    Project at the Sundance Film Festival, the team behind the movie had already released a website about the project. After the film’s immediate success at Sundance in January 2009, the film was bought by Artisan Entertainment who decided that the website would become the highlight of the film’s marketing ventures (Klein, 1999). As the public release date came closer, so did the added information on the film’s website that hinted that the documentary could actually be real. Those who accessed the site could read: journal entries by the female character, fictional police reports about the recovered footage and discover the history behind the Blair Witch. Over time, the site was reaching hits of almost 2 million people per day. In conjunction with this, a documentary about the real folklore of The Blair Witch was made (and released) by the Sci-Fi channel, and Artisan concentrated their efforts on a younger demographic by holding screenings at college campuses. The hype for the release continued to be spurred as it was presented with limited availability to audiences – opening at just 27 theatres nationwide. During this opening weekend, a full-page advertisement was placed in Variety magazine.
