The student is below grade level in most of these areas. Reading- The student could read most words and passages at a primer level except words ending in the silent “e” even though she has been taught how to read. It took her a very long time to read the passage though. She also had an easy time with the reading comprehension questions, but when she made a mistake during the reading and read plant instead of paint the evaluator asked her “can you plant a boat?” to which she replied “yes.” She wasn’t really grasping the concept instead she was just answering information that was straight out of the text. In a different passage, she was asked “who was home?” and she answered, “the man and his parrot.” She did not realize the parrot isn’t part of the answer because it is not a human being. She also exclaimed at the end “I hate reading.” This proved the reading section to be a true challenge for her. Writing- The student can write her full name and telephone number. She can write words and short sentences. There can however, be minor grammatical errors with these sentences and they include many as well. She has not yet learned about proper punctuations.
