    Douglas was indeed very stubborn but she knew she had to do something if she wanted to make it to the Olympics one day. In August 2010 Douglas competed in the US junior national championships. She received silver on balance beam, eighth on floor, and fourth in all around. After the meet her coach swung by her hotel room and explained to her that he never thought she would have taken fourth in all-around and her whole family was stunned by his remarks. His comment made Douglas’s mom realize they might have to find a new coach (122). The good news is placing fourth qualified her for the Junior national team which gave her the chance to compete at the Pan American Championships in Guadalajara. She helped the team score gold and won first place on uneven bars. This was her first international gold medal (123). After the Pan American Championships Douglas’s mother finally picked up the phone and called Chow. He did not know if he wanted to take Douglas at first because he didn’t encourage jumping from gym to gym and thought it might have been too late to change coaches before the Olympics. Chow then talked to high level staff members at USAG to see if he could coach Douglas and they told Chow that he needed to train her, and that Team USA needed her (124-125). Due to Chow’s decision, Douglas’s life had been changed forever. Douglas knew she would have to put all her faith in Chow if she wanted to make it to the Olympics, and that is what she did.
