Did you know that dinosaurs roamed the Earth for over 165 million years? Did you know that the dinosaur with the longest name is Micropachycephalosaurus? To Max, these are facts that come as naturally as the score for the biggest football game this weekend. Max’s favorite t-shirt has a bright red Tyrannosaurus Rex on the front and he sports it proudly once a week- always on a Tuesday. Sometimes the kids at school pick on him for his unique interests and his lack of social skills. Some of the children at school know that he is easily angered and will taunt him until he reacts. He does not have very many friends. Max is a little different than the other children at his school. Max has a form of Autism called Asperger’s Syndrome. Autism is a neurological disorder that affects the person’s ability to communicate, have stable relationships, and function normally in their environment (Brown 2005). The DSM-V has four categories of symptoms that must be apparent in order to be diagnosed with this disorder. The first category is deficits in social communication and interaction not caused by developmental delays (DSM- Carpenter 2013). In order for these criteria to be met, the child must manifest symptoms in all three areas of inquiry: problems with social initiation and response, non-verbal communication, and social awareness and relationships (DSM-Carpenter 2013). For example, a child that licks his peers to get their attention, does not make eye contact when spoken to, and does…

pterosaurs and the first birds. This was the Jurassic Period, 199.6 to 145.5 million years ago, a 54-million-year chunk of the Mesozoic Era. Air, land, or sea, dinosaurs came in all shapes and sizes in many different places around the world. The first dinosaur that I will be telling you about is the Dilophosaurus, this carnivore walked on two legs and unlike the movie (Jurassic park), Dilophosaurus did not spit poison at his prey and didn’t have an expandable neck frill, also shown in the movie…

More specifically, when. He told us both we were in the Jurassic Era, and there were dinosaurs nearby. This was understood by both Duff and I when we found a giant footprint of what could only be a dinosaur’s. Clarence elaborated more on it saying, “that’s an Allosaurus’ footprint... it eats meat. Sienna, could you give me that permineralized fossil?” Him being the expert, I grabbed what seemed to be the most beautiful, flat shell I’ve ever seen and placed it in his…

and an alligator with glued on fins, sails, spikes, and horns. A pig running around in a rubber suit starred as a Triceratops and fought an Allosaurus (man walking upright in a rubber suit). At the time audiences liked the dino-action, but it was not box office smash (Gross, The Lost World: Early Dinosaur Cinema). One Million B.C. did receive two Academy Awards nominations in 1941 for Best Special Effects and Best Musical Score (Oscars, 2016). By today's movie standards, the 1940 special effects…

discovered species was an aquatic animal and that the plates were like a turtle shell but over the years concluded they somehow were attached to back of the dinosaur. A scientist decades later reexamined Marsh's notes and came to conclude that the plates were in fact actually arranged in pairs in two rows along side its back, thus ending the mystery of how the Stegosaurus truly looked. The Stegosaurus is also one the few mainstream dinosaurs that has been in pop culture for over a century,…

This period was estimated to have been between 200 to 145 million years ago. During this period the climate on Earth had drastically changed from really dry to humid and even subtropical. Pangea kept separating, and one half of it, Laurasia, broke up into North America and Eurasia. Godwanda started to break up during the mid-Jurassic. Due to this break-up, more new oceans flooded the spaces in between the new lands. This was a very big change in time for animals as well. More oceanic creatures…

of the bones. This is particularly true of Majungasaurus, where the nasal bones were fused and thickened for strength. On the other hand, the lower jaw of Majungasaurus sported a large fenestra on each side, as seen in other ceratosaurs, as well as synovial joints between certain bones that allowed a high degree of flexibility in the lower jaw, although not to the extent seen in snakes. This may have been an adaptation to prevent the fracture of the lower jaw when holding onto a struggling prey…
