Introduction Bovine serum albumin (BSA) is a transport protein in cow’s blood stream, similar to Human serum albumin in human blood. It binds different types of drugs for delivery to various parts of the body. One of these drugs is warfarin, a blood anticoagulant. This research project’s focus was on the interaction between BSA and warfarin derivatives; our assumption was that the protein binding site has different affinities for different warfarin derivatives; this was to be determined by comparing the equilibrium constants (Keq) and the Gibbs’ free energies of a number of warfarin derivatives. To study this, four warfarin derivatives were used, namely racemate mixtures of 2’-Fluoro warfarin (2’FW), 3’-Fluoro warfarin (3’FW), (R)-4’-Fluorowarfarin,…

Through this experiment we measured how fast a chemical reaction occurs, by changing the degradation rate in Albumin when added to different enzymes. Albumin is a protein found in egg white, which is considered to have important storage and nutritional functions. Albumin has also been used in medicine to treat heavy metal intoxication. We ran Albumin through four different conditions to see which would make the Albumin degrade faster. We predicted that the Albumin would degrade with pepsin the…

    3. Measurement of glycated albumin As mentioned before, the measured albumin is considered a reliable tool to supplement other methods of measuring blood glucose, such as HbA1c and standard assays for glycemic control and diagnosis diabetes [30]. The HbA1c lifespan is estimated to be about 90 to 120 days. Thus, it is known as an indicator for the assessment of long-term glycemic control [17, 31]. However, the level of HbA1c is not suitable for the assessment of the patient’s status in some…

Summary Human Serum albumin (HSA) is a plasma protein in charge of the transportation of the fatty acids (Bhattacharya, Grune & Curry, 2000, p.721). HSA promotes the transportation capacity of plasma because it is currently at around 0.6Mm enabling it to carry more than six molecules of fatty acid. In addition, the HSA binds and agitates the pharmacokinetics of various drugs compounds. The HSA-fatty acid has two drug-binding sites, which are the sub-domains IIA and IIIA. The fatty acid IIIA…

In section I (General Assessment) I found that the clothing aspect was not mentioned however we might assume that since the sheets were dirty and the patient was soiled on each visit, then this could be rated as having poor hygiene. His nutrition status was somewhat difficult to determine as a weight was not provided due to the patient not being able to get on a scale. However, his blood work was taken on the prior visit and his albumin level was 2.8 on a scale of 3.4-5.4 g/dL and his pre…

samples were randomly collected 0, 3rd and 6th days after drought stress (DAS) with five biological replicates for each treatment group. Plant height (cm) was measured from the base of the plants to the tip of longest leaf. Root and shoot fresh weight (g) and lengths (cm) were measured from respective plants on each day of sampling. For dry weights of roots and shoots, the samples were dried at 72 ºC for 72 h. Samples for RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis and qRT-PCR were immediately frozen at −80…

Bovine serum albumin (BSA) is usually used for generation of nanoparticles (NPs) in drug delivery systems. This paper presents a study on the simple coacervation method for fabrication of BSA nanoparticles. An artificial neural network (ANN) model was developed to predict the diameter of nanoparticles based on experimental data. Effect of pH, temperature, initial BSA and cross linker concentration, molar ratio of BSA to ethanol, agitation rate and rate of ethanol addition were investigated on the…

Experiment 9 “proteins” and the purpose of the lab is to become familiar with some reactions of proteins and some of the tests used to detect proteins. The activities for this experiment includes the following: selected reactions of proteins will be carried out, several tests for proteins will be performed including: biuret test, xanthoproteic test, and millon test. This lab is broken down into two sections: precipitation (coagulation) of egg albumin and color tests for proteins. For the first…
