    now being married to an alcoholic is overwhelming. The good news is that there is help out there for them if they should want it. A notably important support group for anyone who is married to an alcoholic is a group called Al-Anon. Al-Anon is where people who have loved ones who are alcoholics can come together with others who are facing the same challenges and offer comfort and support. Alateen is also a support group offered for teenagers who are seeking help and guidance. These group settings offer self-help and resources for those affected by the alcoholic in their life. According to Al-Anon family Groups (1986), at the beginning of each meeting they start the group off with a very popular prayer called the Serenity prayer that states, “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference” (pg. 252). This short but powerful prayer is very significant for those dealing with an alcoholic learn they cannot change their loved ones behavior, but they can change the way they react to the behavior. In the group, they also follow the same twelve steps and traditions that the alcoholic follows in AA and learn how these steps apply to both them and the alcoholic. According to Al-Anon family Groups (1987), some self- help saying or slogans one can use to help them cope are ,“Live and Let Live” and “Let Go and Let God” (pg. 9).
