    Mysterious Moai The Moai, weighing in at about 14 tons (28000 lbs) stand on average, a 13 feet tall, are statues that the have head, but not many know about the rest of the wonder. They have torsos, and to hear their purpose, keep reading! I’ve prepared two reasons to why you should save them, what is happening to them, and why they were built. I’m going to try and get you on my side. The blocks are made from the same igneous rock. Most of the statues are covered in shifting dirt and sand, though the rest of the elements, such as sand and sea spray, are damaging their faces. The heads were once detailed from the model, but now, the faces have been carved thin, and their features have been deformed. “After thousands of years of rain and sea spray pelting the soft igneous stone, weathering has washed away most of the head’s facial features.” (Crane 102) This is a big problem because eventually, the head will tumble down the hill they rest on, because Easter Island is very hilly. They are falling apart, however, there are more ways to save them than not at all.
