Selecting an Event Over the course of the semester, our class was told to participate in a community event different from our own culture. It was actually very hard deciding where I should attend, for the fact; I knew very little of what was available in the area. When it came to figuring out what type of event I wanted to attend I knew that I wanted it to be somewhere that I knew that I could learn from to help with my future practice in social work. I eventually decided on attending a Coffee, Cake and True Islam event hosted at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Center. Details of Experience When it was time to actually enter the center I was honestly nervous. Before arriving, I did a bit more research on what would be viewed as appropriate in attending the community center. Learning that facility was a sacred place that Muslims would go and pray and enjoy each other’s company. I took in consideration to dress modestly and bring a friend along. Once stepping foot inside the center, with a group of other individuals, I was greeted with smiles and constant “hello’s, welcome, come in, and don’t be afraid”. Everyone that greeted me only ensured me that the community center was a place open to all. Shortly after entering the center a man who was an active…

of the Arab’s historical, literary, and geographical imaginative narratives during the 7th to the 9th centuries, I attempt to demonstrate the nature of the Others’ image, reflected in the Muslim Arab discourse on the Chinese civilizations, and the historical development of the Arabs enthrallment by them. Through the Arabs imaginations of China, the Arabs’ worldview and Islamic influence on it, can be found in this imagery. The Arabs first time to encounter China, depending on Arabic/Islamic…

compare the wrapper on a piece of sweet to something so significant. Every woman is beautiful, precious and valuable weather “Hijabi”, or “Non-Hijabi”. The idea that the covering makes a woman more preferable is unreasonable and quite smug if you ask me. For example, A woman with the Hijab on could be less religious than one without a Hijab. (Who knows? Who are we to judge?) This analogy also hints that the hijab is worn for men. The hijab is beyond any mans preference!. I mean, Hijab isn’t for…

The political cartoon titled “Who has damaged Muhammad more?” by Signe Wilkinson that was published on 08/01/2015 speaks so much truth about Islam in this day and age. As a Muslim I greatly appreciate that the artist did not put a picture of the prophet because it is forbidden to do so and there is a reason behind it. In Islam, there is always a reason why something is “Haram” in this case pictures of the prophet is forbidden because the prophet feared that people would worship his image…

cruel. But what comes to mind when you hear the word Muslim. Is it a towel wrapped, goat loving terrorist, holding an AK-47? The Krasniqi family are Muslims, a religion not highly accepted in the U.S. Muslims have very different religious practices than a southern Baptist. Even though the case worker was aware of the children’s religion, she proceeded to place the children in a Baptist foster home where they would eventually be adopted. I believe the case worker did not agree with the Muslim religion, therefore she was trying to remove the children from any form of contact with the Muslim religion. The case worker was…

insignificant part of society, Islamic calligraphy is crucial to its culture because of its role in religion and architecture, and its help in creating unity among Muslims.
