In 2005, his position as America’s villain had faded as for three years he was ‘‘on hiatus; He checked himself into rehabilitation due to repeated drug overdoses. Regardless, the Slim Shady persona, though controversial, is largely impactful on not only Eminem’s career, but the state of America as a new means of artistry was introduced to the United States. Slim Shady first hit the public stage 1999 under Aftermath records in the Slim Shady LP. Throughout various tracks of the album, Mathers smoothly transitions from slow self-deprecating rap ballads to fits of raw lyricism depicting outlandish and ridiculous stories and sometimes crafting pieces that ride the fine line between the two. Influential rapper and producer, Dr. Dre, placed full confidence onto Eminem, so much in fact, Dre acted as the executive producer for the Slim Shady LP. Here, a perfect storm brewed. The credibility of Dr. Dre combined with the white Mathers allowed the rapper to soar to national popularity.
