    The migration of Caribbean/Afro-Cuban music to the USA took place in the 20th century when a large arrival of Puerto Ricans and Caribbean islanders went to New York City and by 1960 the number of Puerto Ricans and people from the Caribbean totaled about 1.5 million due to the level of Caribbean immigration picked up after the United States entered World War II in 1941. Almost 50,000 Caribbean’s both black and white settled in the country between 1941 and 1950. They took advantage of the rapidly expanding war economy and postwar economic growth.
