    Specific Heat Lab

Abstract: The purpose of this lab was to show the different absorption and emission rates of three different substances. Radiation laws, albedo, and specific heat are all reasons why this is achievable. An agreed upon hypothesis is that the sand will absorb the most heat due to the number of molecules, the moss will absorb the second most because it doesn't have as many molecules as sand, but it has more than water, which isn’t as complex. To complete this experiment, you need three beakers of each material, a heat source, a temperature gun, and a timer. Set each beaker under the heat .3 meters off the ground, and collect results every minute. (See attached diagram). In this study the data that was collected proved the agreed upon the hypothesis.…

The purpose of the Determining Food Dye Content Lab was to identify the food dye coloring in green apple Gatorade, and determine the dye’s concentration to ultimately recreate a solution containing the same concentration of dyes as the original. To determine the concentration of the dyes present in the green apple Gatorade, a spectrometer was used to measure the wavelengths and absorbance values for the given dyes. A sample of the green apple Gatorade was tested in the spectrometer to measure…

by the chlorophyll molecules (Merzlyak, Chivkunova, Zhigalova, & Naqvi 2009). These chlorophyll molecules then transfer the light energy to chloroplasts and that light energy is converted into chemical energy (Merzlyak, Chivkunova, Zhigalova, & Naqvi 2009). The purpose of this experiment was to observe what the absorbance spectrum of Spinacia oleracea extract was and what the absorbance spectrum of the pigments were within the extract. From the use of the spectrophotometer I was able record…

The question is, “Which paper towel brand is the most absorbent?” The hypothesis is, “If a dropper drops water equally on a paper towel of each brand until it started to drip, then Bounty brand would contain the most water, in grams. The independent variable is the brands of paper towels. The dependent variable is the grams of water that was contained in the paper towel. The control variable was that every paper towel sheet was cut to be 15.2 centimeters by 28.1 centimeters. The control group…

Figure i: ORAL DRUG CONSUMPTION  Injection: The fastest way of producing the desired effect is through directly injecting the drug into the bloodstream.  Inhalation: The drug inhalation causes its movement across the air sacs in the lungs before entering the blood stream. Figure ii: DRUG CONSUMPUTION THROUGH SMOKING  Direct absorption: The nasal membrane absorbs cocaine when it is sniffed. This can be considered as one…

Those sorts of claims. Also, they go on further to say that you better be careful because the unabsorbed calcium is a cause of kidney stones. So you better get our super absorbed calcium otherwise you might risk getting kidney stones, and then other marketers confuse intestinal absorption with what happens in your stomach. Dissolution happens in your stomach, it dissolves the calcium and all calciums dissolve very, very well in stomach acid, ninety-five to one-hundred percent absorption is…

The optical bandgap (EQD) can be assessed using Tauc Relation equation (2). (αhυ)2 = f(R) hυ = B (hυ - EQD )n (2) where B is proportional constant (often negligible), hv is photon energy, EQD is bandgap energy, n based on the transition type (n = 1/2 for direct allowed transitions), and α is absorption coefficient. Kubelka-Munk Equation (3): approximation of α .5 …

the same volume is poured into four 250 ml beakers labelled pH 4.5, pH 5 and pH 5.5 as shown in figure 6. The pH of the four different solutions is adjusted to match the pH labelled on the glass. Clear hydrogen peroxide is added in a 9:1 volume ratio. On commencement of the reaction, pH measurements were taken every second until completion. This procedure is then repeated at lower molar concentration. The temperature of the reacting mixture varied between 19oC and 20oC. Figure 10: pH…

By measuring out two grams of our unknown, and heating it up until the difference of the mass of the test tube and the anhydrous residue subtracted to 0.002g, we were able to calculate the percent water in the two possible unknowns, and then our unknown, to figure out which unknown we were given. Since our percent water was 44.9%, we concluded that our unknown is Zinc Sulfate. A possible error as to why our calculated percent water was not exact to the theoretical percent water was most likely…

Compounding > Absorption Enhancement Absorption enhancement is the use of functional, adhesive substances in the making of an active drug. These additional ingredients are used to improve or increase the absorption of the medicine in the body by enhancing the penetrability of a particular covering layer. The body is composed with different sheaths as a form of defense mechanism from different external interventions which includes medicines. While oral dosage is the most friendly and…
