    Brandt Debeltz 1//6/17 Observation Essay Final 827 words Giants Ridge, a ski resort in northern Minnesota. At giants ridge there's two bunny hills, the only difference between the two is one is just a little bit taller than the other. The magic carpet is the one this observation essay is about. When walking up to the magic carpet there's a belt driven conveyor that carries you up the hill. At the beginning of the conveyor there are three signs that say, leave ski poles here, do not move around on the lift because you may fall, then the lift operator has to stop the lift help that person up and restart. With that everyone else that's on that lift is waiting because one kid didn’t follow the rules. The third sign says that all snowboarders must have only one foot strapped in. In the early morning when the employee's start getting all the lifts and everything started up the first thing the operator has to do is move 8 28” black ribbed culverts cut in half that are 10’ long with yellow ropes on each end. They are used to cover the conveyor belting from the snow and the weather when it’s not in use. When they move the covers they set them aside just enough so it rests one end on the outer edge of the conveyor. Once they are moved they can start the carpet, to start the magic carpet you have to turn on the main power, when turning it on you have to stand to the side, use your left hand, and hold your breath when flipping the switch on or off.
