Originally, Greek Mythology was a part of the Ancient Greece religion, a set of stories about the gods, goddesses, heroes and rituals. Greek Mythology consists of the twelve Olympians who were the major deities comprising of Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Aphrodite, Hephaestus, Hermes and either Hestia or Dionysus (Greekmythologytoday.com, 2017). They came into power by dethroning the Titans who were the children of Uranus (Heaven) and Gaea (Earth). During the era…
Aphrodite was the goddess of fertility, love, and beauty. Unlike other gods and goddesses; Aphrodite has two completely different stories of origin that end with her in the same place, Mount Olympus. The first is that she was the daughter of one of Zeus's many affairs with women, but in this case it was with Dione who was the goddess of the oak tree. The second and most famous story is that when Cronus had slain his father Uranus and threw his male genitalia into the sea, it dissolved into…
The altar of Zeus, which is usually referred as the Pergamon altar, is a giant monument constructed under King Eumenes II (Campell, “Pergamon”) on one of the terraces of the Acropolis in Pergamon. It is one of the numerous sculptural monuments that the Pergamenes aim of commemorating their military achievements (Pollitt 81). The altar is a part of the Acropolis that includes the library and the sanctuary of Athena on the sides (Fig. 1), which was built to worship their patron goddess Athena and…
After the previous success of our interview with Persephone, we were requested to interview Poseidon. We sent our reporter in to get the scoop. I was by the Jersey Shore carefully following directions to where Poseidon was to meet me. He said that it was a “sacred sacrificial ground for prisoners of war.” It seemed to be a normal section of restaurants by the shore but I had hope. When I finally made my last turn and I saw the sacred ground. A fish stick stand. On the bench by the fish stich…
Self-Help Assignment Reflection Paper Meeting Information The experiences that I attained from attending two dissimilar self-help meetings were beneficial and applicable to my role as a future social worker. It is imperative to have a strong sense of self and engage in opportunities that encourage personal reflection especially when working in the helping profession. This occasion allowed me to explore my thoughts and feelings and reflect on the impact that these meetings had on me personally…
I chose to write about Greek Gods and Goddess. There are plants, constellations and some months that are named after the Gods. Most Greeks lived their lives to please the Gods. They believed the weather and even good or bad things happened because of the Gods. They believed the Gods came down from Mt. Olympus to help the good and to punished the bad. Zeus is the King of Mt. Olympus. He is the God of Justice. He is the God that made thunder and throws lightning bolts. Zeus had many children and…
Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Athena, Apollo. Artemis, Ares, Aphrodite, Hephaestus, Hermes, and Dionysus are the Twelve Olympians. They're the main Gods and Goddesses of Greek mythology. The ancient Greeks fancied the Twelve Olympians. There are hundreds of gods, some are minor, and some are major. The Olympians are the major gods; they get the most praise and recognition from mortals. The minor gods are powerful but not as strong as the Olympians. Zeus was the youngest son of Kronos and Rhea,…
The Flood of Gilgamesh was composed before 2000 B.C, while the Genesis story was composed in 400 BC, which was much later then the Gilgamesh surge. Scriptural authors presumably knew of the much more established surge yet amended it so it fit with their own history and perspective. They in all probability expected the first story with their own mythology. In spite of the numerous similitudes between the two stories, the distinctions are uncovered in various diverse subjects that recognize the…
I attended the play “Three gods walk into a bar” at the Crowder College Theatre on Thursday, October 20th, 2016. I have not watched a play for at least 4 years and have to say it was one of the best plays I have ever been to in my life! The play has a great atmosphere where the emotion is constantly changing from comedy, to sadness, anger, anticipation, and then ending with acceptance for how things are and that you cannot necessarily change things. The humor was quite enjoyable in the play. I…
