    Mission Trip Experience

Every year my church nominates fifteen young adults to go on an annual mission trip to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. I was honored when I was selected to go because it showed me that the adults in my life recognized the hard work and dedication I am willing to put into everything I do. Through out the whole summer I was on the vacation bible school committee and organized food, games, and crafts for the children that we would be interacting with. But then, about a month before we were set to leave for the trip, my best friend asked me if I would like to go to Cancun with her family because her sister couldn't make it but, it was the same week that the mission trip was happening. This desicion was very hard for me. My best friend had…

I have had various experiences in the last two years, but the one I feel is the most significant is the time I spent volunteering for the Detroit Mission Trip. This opportunity presented itself in June of 2014 through my church, Metro South Church. I spent one week, Monday through Friday, each day-all day, commuting from my home in Brownstown to the inner city of Detroit. Each day of this mission trip consisted of various volunteer jobs. I was one of approximately 100 people that engaged in…

Tour Reflection Going into this tour, I’m pretty sure I was one of the few choir members who had actually stepped foot into Germany before, since I had traveled their once before with my mother and grandmother. When I had gone here before (in middle school), I had loved the country, and so even though we were only going to be in Germany for five days, I was most excited for this part of the trip. Since my original trip here was so long ago, I didn’t remember a whole lot of detail about the…

Narrative Essay Till this day, I still remember the first time my family and I went on a camping trip during the end of summer a few years back. This trip had been planned for almost a month from the date we were going. That month seemed to take forever to come but when it finally came, everyone but my little brother wanted to go. The reason he did not want to come was that he was afraid of getting lost or something else worse than getting lost. The only thing I was afraid is mosquitoes. I…

flew to Tucson, Arizona. From there they drove two hours across the Mexican-American border into Agua Prieta. The experience they had there changed their lives. The first thing they did was visit the owner of the house built by a previous team. They met the single mom and her two kids; for many of the members on the team that first hour in Agua Prieta was a huge eye opener. Short-term mission trips are expensive; the prices vary depending on the size of the group and location but some go up to…

spring break trips to Florida every year, so I never really traveled all that much. The world was a mystery to me, all I knew was what I learned in school so far, which really wasn’t enough. My sophomore year I took a world history class. This class is what really opened my eyes to everything that I hadn’t seen. The teacher was kind of $famous to the students. She had traveled to the places she was teaching us about. She wasn’t just giving us the information out of a textbook, she was telling us…

So before I left to go on this trip, I entered the lottery for this miniature junior high called dutcher that is difficult to get into. We had entered before we had officially decided to go on the cross country trip, so I wasn't going to be able to go to dutcher. The odd thing was; I didn't show up to the drawing because I just figured that I wouldn't make it in, but the next day when I went to elementary school a friend of mine told me that I had made it in. This had surprised me, because…

By the time I was a senior in high school, I had already traveled to Guatemala once for a service trip. Now, towards the end of February break of my senior year, I was in the middle of the rural countryside in Guatemala, traveling a familiar rocky road in a grey van. I was with fellow students who went on the trip the year before, and we were on our way to visit the community we had become acquainted with exactly a year earlier. Going down a winding, bumpy road in a strange country with a…
