The Archaic stage in Greek history lasted from about 700-480 BCE. During this time period, art historians called it the Geometric age because it marked the return of the human figure. One example of this type of art would be Lady of Auxerre, 650-625 BCE (Fig 2-15). This statue was one of the earliest limestone statuettes of a goddess or maiden. It has a flat-topped head that is triangular in shape. The skirt is geometric in shape due to the square designs on it.
