Some friends never change, and others do; but it’s the friends that change us that matter. Some memories never leave us, and some are as easily forgotten as the last time we blinked. The summer of 2010 holds some of my most painful and fun memories and it is surely a time that changed me and all of my friends. My friend Michael now knows that he changed that summer, but what he does not know is just how much he changed all of us. Like most summers do, it all started at the end of school, the last day in fact. All of my friends and myself had been invited to go to Alan’s house to swim in the creek and ride around on the Gator. The group consisted of Alan, Patrick, Randy, Michael, Josh, and myself. Like every other time that we had all went to Alan’s, we drove the Gator about 4 miles down the gravel road (we used to walk) to Union Ford creek. We swam for hours in the baking May sun. Once it was about 5 O’clock (since school got out at 12:30 that day), we all piled inside the 3-seater Gator to make the drive back to the house to start the fire. Three of us sat in the front while the other three rode in the bed. Alan, who was driving, Josh and Randy sat in the front while Michael, Patrick, and I enjoyed the bumpy ride in the back. About halfway back to the house we come to the hill that we loved to drive as fast as we could down. Patrick and I sat down and held on while Michael, who was always the daredevil of the group, stood up and held on to the roll-cage. We screamed down…

Of course this era so cherished and praised as the ideal time in America, is nothing more that a mythological veil. This obscured reflection has falsely projected a time of complete happiness, low social and economic distress, and even posterized what one should…

About the 1950’s In the article Coontz talks about what people miss about the 1950s, she likewise expresses that numerous Americans in 1950s tried to set the record straight with respect to positive and negative actions that were connected with the decade. Accordingly, she starts to clarify the fact that it was a good time for children that grew up at that time. Also, at that time marriages, jobs, birth rate and education were at an all-time high during this era known as the post war economic…

The 1960s was a time where people started to think more individually. Instead of the government deciding the public’s opinion, people started thinking for themselves and changing the country through society itself. In the 1950s, conformism was caused by the wide spread fear of communism. People dressed the same way, acted the same way and were terrified to go against social norms. They blindly accepted laws and governmental policies. People in the 60s were no longer willing to conform to the…
