Organised by the International Olympic Committee; held in Athens, Greece, from the 6th to 15th of April 1896. The World Bank estimates Brazil’s economy will shrink 2.5 per cent this year, and while it is still struggling to pay off its World Cup bills, the government allocated 9.7 billion US dollars from the public and private sectors to fund the facilities and administration of the Games.
