Why is pulse pressure widened in this patient's anaemia?

Histamine, prostaglandins and nitricoxide are released (cytokines) which increase vascularpermeability and systemic vasodilatation,reducing systemic vascular resistanceand diastolic blood pressure and, hence,widening the pulse pressure. This is typical in people in septic shock, but if the patient is not infected/inflamed, it is likely an indicator of anaemia. |
